Four ways to keep your energy bill low

October 11, 2010 – Energy is becoming more and more expensive. Oil prices keep rising and sustainable energy is still expensive. of course there’s something you can do to lower your energy bills, you can save energy. Saving energy doesn’t mean that you are having to lower your living standard. Saving energy doesn’t have to be a big problem, it’s actually very easy. I will give you four ways to lower your energy bill.

If you’re using exterior lighting, you can try to attach a sensor to them. This sensor will detect movements, so they will go on immediately if someone gets close. If there’s nobody in the garden they will go off. This is no problem, because you don’t need them then. Don’t worry about the safety issues. The sensor will also detect potentially dangerous people, like burglars, and will turn on the light immediately.  Because the lights aren’t turned on all night long, you will save a lot of energy.

Keep the sun out of your house. It can be hot in your house during summer and the sun will only make it hotter inside. When sun shines through a window, it will warm up your house. You can keep the sun out of your house using blinds and solar screens. Solar screens are easier to install and to maintain. However, blinds can be adjusted and are therefore more user friendly. Using solar screens and blinds you can save on your airconditioner usage, a really big energy consumer.

Replace your light bulbs with energy-saving alternatives, like led lights or energy-efficient light bulbs. The techniques are really improved during the last years. LED lights do have much more friendly colors and the warm-up time of energy-efficient light bulbs has really shortened. LED lights are expensive to buy, but you can win this money back with its energy reduction and long life-time.

Also interesting, have a look at generating your own energy. For example you can install solar panels on top of your house. They are expensive to buy and install, but you can sell the energy they generate back to you power company. In some countries the government subsides the usage of solar panels to make it more interesting. Of course you can also save energy with the advice I gave you in the previous paragraphs.
