What Bra to Wear with One Shoulder Clubwear Tops and Dresses

October 11, 2010 – Some of the hottest clubwear designs are those that have a bit of tribal look, sometimes in leather, often with only one shoulder strap. This creates a problem deciding which bra to wear with these unusual styles. A strapless bra can work depending on how low the front neckline falls and if the dress has a plunging back or not. Here are some ideas on what bras can be worn with different style clubwear outfits.

1. if the dress or top is leather or a plain fabric and has only one shoulder, there are some funky new bra designs that have silver, gold and faux diamond straps that look like jewelry. These are excellent choices because you needn’t wear both straps to give a little extra support. The straps are bought separately and can be added to any strapless bra you already own that has loops for removable straps. Some of the straps are solid chain with rhinestones, others are satin ribbon in assorted fashion colors that have small diamond accents or decorative elements. There are also wide multi-row silver chain straps that give extra support and delicate ones with colored rhinestones. Most designs that go great with clubwear won’t cost more than $20 to $25. For a less formal look, choose the beaded designs that look very trendy and come in funky colors.

2. if you’ve ever worn the one shoulder dresses that have a built-in bra shelf, like the ones by Victoria’s Secret, then you probably already know that a full cup bra isn’t usually necessary. If the top or clubwear outfit you’ve chosen doesn’t have a shelf-bra built into the design, you can easily create one by wearing a small stretchy tube top under the dress. Especially great are the lace ones by Free People that come in black, champagne and purple and cost just under $40. Free People also make a gorgeous little lace bandeaux, ideal for wearing under one shoulder clubwear tops, and it comes in orange and other great colors to match with outfits. Hanky Panky and Cosabella also make bra alternatives in bandeau and tube style tops that are strapless, which hold themselves securely in place, and work wonders for unusual shaped tops that might otherwise force you to go braless.
